How can living flame or living water impregnate a mortal woman or be impregnated by a mortal man? Obscure Elven texts refer to rituals of empowerment which bind elementals into mortal form to augment an individual. Though this ritual was only used in times of desperation, it has been suggested that those so augmented passed traces of the ritual on to their descendants resulting in individuals with strong elemental ties.
